The Magic Question to Get Targeted Website Traffic
Can you help me please? Most of the people searching online for a product, service, or information are asking you that question. So, the next time you are on a mission to get targeted website traffic, see if you can help them find what they really want.
The next question is “how do you help them?”
Let’s use a typical grocery store or large department store as an example. Have you ever walked up to an employee in a grocery store and asked them where can you find a certain product? If you have, you know that you tend to get one of two basic responses.
Employee #1: “Yes, if you walk down the next aisle, you will find it near the bread”. Or…”Go down aisle number five and it “should be” next to the dog food.”
Well, off you go and 10 minutes later you are still looking for the same product. Now, you are frustrated and decide that you have to get home and you literally walk out the store without something you wanted.
Employee #2: “Yes, if you will follow me Ma’am, I’ll show you exactly where it is in aisle number nine.”
In the second example, employee #2 virtually eliminates any chance of wasted time and frustration. He or she also shows you a bit more consideration, and that they care about your question. Afterall, they took the time to stop whatever they were doing and escorted you right to the item. The chances of you buying that item have now gone up dramatically.
That is basically what you are trying to do with your online visitors. You want to make the process of finding the information they want as easy as possible.
The first way you do this is to utilize the appropriate keywords when marketing your web page. You have to ask yourself what kinds of keywords and phrases will my visitor most likely use to find my page?
Next, once that visitor has followed a search engine or other link to your site, do you actually deliver on what they want? The goal here is to not only get targeted website traffic but to have them appreciate your site and either buy immediately or bookmark your site to come back later.
It’s not really enough that you put them in the general vicinity by arriving at your web site. In other words, if after arriving, they now have to start a new search to find out where the info is within your site, you have probably lost them forever as a potential customer.
What you want to do is deliver them directly to the information that they were seeking in the first place. It could be general details, a buy link, pictures, testimonials or any number of other things. It is your job to anticipate and understand exactly what your readers want and put it in front of them.
For example, if your keyword phrase is the “best lemonade recipe”, you don’t want them landing on a page telling them where to buy perfect lemons. Yes, that may be part of the lemondade making process, but there are other ways to link to that step.
They arrived at your site with the main purpose of finding the best lemonade recipe, and by delivering on that, you increase your chances of earning a long term reader or a new potential customer.
